The new John Street reception area, the first significant area of the new vision to be delivered, is a complicating and challenging process. This area of the club forms part of the original building dating back to the 1960’s, with subsequent building additions connecting to the old structure.
This has posed several challenges, not least the unknown nature of the structural details we would encounter once demolition work revealed the bones of the original structure. A significant amount of additional work has been necessary so that the building meets the latest construction code, and the methodology to carry out these works has been intricate in order to maintain the integrity of the old structure whilst demolition works were completed.
There is, however, light at the end of the tunnel as we begin to move towards construction of the new façade and the internal fit-out works to create a stunning new arrival sequence from John St and the Board St basement car park.
The façade of the new building features a beautiful, glazed brick which pays homage to the heritage value of the existing conservation area, but with a contemporary twist. Full height glass not only allows natural light to flood the space but is state of the art double glazing to improve the thermal performance of the building and contribute to an altogether more sustainable club.
The space will feature two new elevators transporting members from the basement car park into the new reception area, a DDA compliant access ramp, casual seating, a reception desk, and a stunning feature staircase connecting the eastern section of the club with the new first floor food & beverage and gaming offers.
The finishes will exude opulence and luxury. Our bespoke floor tiles, meticulously crafted by the talented interior design team at PTW Architecture, offer a distinctive aesthetic. Complemented by brass wall cladding, rich walnut timbers, and elegantly honed natural marble, we are confident that this space will deliver a striking new experience for members and guests as they arrive to enjoy the revamped club facilities.
